CURRENT SCENARIO
Delhi is one of the most unsafe cities in the world. Nearly 70% of women in Delhi
have been victims of physical, mental and sexual harassment, the effects of which
may persist for a lifetime. In most such incidents, perpetrators seldom face
judgement and are further emboldened to repeat their actions. Women are rarely
allowed to feel safe in public spaces or transport.
In light of recent criminal activities especially against women in Delhi, we have
started our "Safe In Delhi" Campaign. As part of this initiative, we are conducting
realistic self defense workshops across the NCR region. This workshop will equip
the attendees to protect themselves against situations like eve teasing, rape,
mugging and assaults.
The only viable solution is to empower women to be willing and able to defend
themselves. There is a common assumption among women that resisting and
counter attacking the attacker might aggravate him and make him more violent.
This assumption is incorrect, and it repels women from learning self defense. Self
defense training equips women with the skill and confidence to decide whether
to hit back or not. It is better to have the tools and not need them, than to need
them and not have them.
KRAV MAGA FOR WOMEN
Official statistics show a clear trend over the last decade. There has been a
dramatic increase, approximately 145% in the number of reported crimes against
women. On the streets, in buses, on roads, in homes etc, women face numerous
threat scenarios like rape, molestation, eve teasing, mugging, harassment,
kidnapping etc. the predators can be strangers, coworkers, neighbors or even
someone they know personally.
Krav Maga training is designed for women to focus on self defense and rape
prevention techniques. These programs emphasize realistic scenarios for women
and provide defensive solutions to the problems they can face in today’s world.
This training educates women to be aware of potential danger signs as they occur in the real world, to spot them at the earliest opportunity and take
appropriate action.
They are taught to fight with full force in a state of adrenaline rush, engrain the technique in muscle memory so that the body will remember and respond appropriately even when the mind has forgotten. A key element of empowering self defense is teaching a woman to retake control of the situation so that she can assert herself and fight back rather than struggle.
It also provides women the ability to respond and protect themselves when a
threatening situation cannot be avoided or prevented. The emphasis is in
developing the ability of the trainee to deal with the stress and shock of a real
threat or attack, and to make appropriate decisions while under extreme pressure.
Training for women is always conducted in a safe environment by highly qualified
and experienced instructors, covering everything from basic self defense and
personal protection to preventing sexual assault and surviving high risk situations.
